Texas Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 11 Wounded

(MENAFN) A gunman killed at least one person and wounded 11 others in Midland, Texas, on Friday before barricading himself inside a building, triggering a law enforcement standoff that ended with the suspect's death, local authorities confirmed.

The City of Midland announced on its official X account that "the active shooter incident has been resolved, and the suspect is confirmed deceased," while cautioning that the scene remains active and that road closures are expected to stay in place as the investigation continues.

The Midland Police Department said in an earlier Facebook post that officers responded to reports of an active shooter in the 4600 block of West Wall Street after gunfire was heard coming from a building, adding that the scene was quickly secured and the surrounding area cleared.

Midland Mayor Lori Blong told reporters at a news conference that the gunman had been contained by officers and that SWAT teams had been deployed to the scene — before authorities later confirmed the suspect had died.

No information has been released regarding a possible motive or the identity of the gunman. The investigation remains ongoing.
