Stakeholders Notice: TREO Rule Review
Last Updated on August 27, 2026
The Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO) was created by the 89th Legislature to assist state agencies in achieving regulatory efficiency, including the rulemaking process. TREO is conducting a review of SML’s rules and recommending changes to promote efficiency. This notice includes two PowerPoint presentations – one for the mortgage industry and one for savings banks – that summarize the rule changes recommended by TREO as a result of the rule review. The rule changes are discussed conceptually, and no text for the rule changes has been developed. The purpose of this notice is to solicit feedback from stakeholders on a conceptual basis before considering whether to proceed with the recommended rule changes. SML is accepting comments until September 11, 2026, at 5:00 pm. CT.
