Texas Water Development Board approves $2,560,000 to the Olmito Water Supply Corporation (Cameron County) for water system improvements

AUSTIN – (September 10, 2026) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $2,560,000 to the Olmito Water Supply Corporation (Cameron County), including $260,000 in financing and $2,300,000 in principal forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF). The Corporation will use the assistance for planning, acquisition, and design of a water system improvements project.

In addition to the principal forgiveness, the Corporation could save approximately $115,000 over the life of the loan by using the DWSRF.

With the assistance approved today, the Corporation will plan for the expansion of its water treatment plant from 2 million gallons per day to 3 million gallons per day and adding two water wells. Expansion of the water plant includes new membrane filtration and a reverse osmosis desalination system, chemical feed and pretreatment systems. The Corporation also plans to develop an asset management plan.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
