How to Find Well Logs Using the NPGCD Groundwater Interactive Map

Posted September 28, 2026

Looking for a well log or well report? You can find it online.

Whether you are a producer, driller, landowner or simply looking for information about a particular well, the North Plains Groundwater Conservation District’s Groundwater Interactive Map provides an easy way to locate available well information.

The interactive map includes links to Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) well data and reports, allowing users to search for wells by well number, GPU, or Section, Block and Survey.

Follow these simple steps to find a well report.

💧 Step 1: Visit the NPGCD Website

Go to the North Plains Groundwater Conservation District website.

From the main menu, select:

“Aquifer Data & Maps”

💧 Step 2: Select “Groundwater Interactive Map”

From the Aquifer Data & Maps menu, select:

“Groundwater Interactive Map”

This will take you to the page for the District’s interactive map.

💧 Step 3: Open the Interactive Map

In the middle of the page, select:

VIEW GROUNDWATER INTERACTIVE MAP

The map will open in a new page.

Tip: The map may take a few moments to load. The NPGCD website notes that it can take up to approximately three minutes because information is being pulled from external sources.

💧 Step 4: Accept the Disclaimer

When the map opens, a disclaimer will appear.

Read the disclaimer and select Accept to continue.

💧 Step 5: Turn on TWDB Well Information

Look at the tabs/tools column on the left side of the map.

Scroll down through the available tabs until you find:

☑ TWDB Groundwater Well

☑ TWDB Well Reports

Select the checkbox beside each option.

Turning these layers on will display links to information maintained by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB).

💧 Step 6: Find the Well on the Map

Once the TWDB layers are turned on, zoom in on the area you are interested in.

As you zoom in, orange and purple dots will appear on the map.

These dots represent locations where well information and reports are available.

*if you do not see any dots zoom in

🔎 Don’t want to search the map manually?

You can use the Search feature farther down in the tabs column.

Depending on the information you have, you can search by:

  • Well Number
  • GPU
  • Section, Block and Survey

This can make it much easier to find a specific well or property.

💧 Step 7: Select the Well

Once you find the location or well you are looking for, select the orange or purple dot on the map.

A pop-up window will appear with information about that well.

💧 Step 8: Select the Well Report or Tracking Number

In the pop-up, look for the blue well report or tracking number.

Select the number.

This will open the associated information in a new browser window.

💧 Step 9: View the Report

Once the new window opens, look near the top of the page for the:

VIEW REPORT button.

Select View Report to open the well report.

💧 Step 10: Review the Well Log

Many well reports contain multiple pages.

Use the < > navigation buttons to move from page to page and review the complete report.

When you have found the information you need, you can use the Print button to print the report or save/export it as a PDF file for your records.

Need Help?

If you have questions about the Groundwater Interactive Map or the information available for a particular well, contact the North Plains Groundwater Conservation District at 806-935-6401. The District’s website also notes that not every well will necessarily have a log available, particularly wells drilled before the District had associated records.
